AI Writing: Does It Always Have That AI Feel?
Learn how to reduce the “AI feel” in AI-assisted writing with tips for making your content more natural, engaging, and personalized.
Recently, many people have been asking me how to reduce the “AI feel” in AI-assisted writing.
Some friends only realize this issue after publishing their articles and getting criticized in the comments: it's obvious at first glance that it was written by AI.
Today, let's talk about how to solve this problem so that your articles are both logical and warm, with less of a mechanical tone.
What is the “AI feel”?
The main reason people can easily tell that an article is AI-generated is that AI's writing tends to be too stiff and formulaic.
For example, AI often uses very rigid transition words, like “first,” “second,” “finally,” and “in addition.”
While these words can make an article seem more organized, overusing them makes the writing feel like a dull list, lacking personality.
AI also tends to ramble. To emphasize a concept, it often repeats the same idea several times.
After reading enough of this, you'll find that the article becomes long-winded and boring.
How do you reduce the “AI feel” in your writing?
The key is not to take AI-generated articles and use them as-is; they must be edited.
Editing isn't too difficult if you follow these three steps:
Step 1: Remove rigid transition words and overly structured formats.
As mentioned above, AI tends to structure articles using a “first,” “second,” “finally” pattern.
But in real writing, no one talks like that.
Think about it—who speaks like this in conversation? Instead, more casual and natural expressions help readers feel more engaged.
For example, you can replace those words with “by the way,” “speaking of which,” or “interestingly.”
Using more conversational language makes the article feel smoother and less robotic.
Step 2: Cut out unnecessary repetitions.
Whether written by AI or humans, good writing is concise, direct, and informative.
What we can do is remove the repetitive sections and keep the key points and information.
This not only saves the reader's time but also makes the article more fast-paced.
Step 3: Most importantly, add your own personal touch.
No matter how much you revise AI-generated articles, they will still lack a “human touch.”
This point is crucial.
Especially in the introduction and conclusion, adding some personal flair can immediately bring your article to life.
In the introduction, you could share a personal story, make an interesting analogy, or use an emotional tone to engage readers.
In the conclusion, beyond summarizing, you could add some interaction with the reader, pose an open-ended question, or share your insights.
This will make the article not only logical and informative but also feel like you are “talking” to the reader rather than having a machine “output” words.
As AI writing tools continue to evolve, the issue of the “AI feel” may gradually diminish with improved technology.
However I firmly believe that AI will never completely replace writing.
Truly great writing is not just about compiling information or structuring logic; it’s about expressing thoughts, emotions, and personal style.
That’s something machines can't learn yet, and it’s also the core of maintaining your competitive edge in writing.
Imagine a day when AI can write articles perfectly for you—it could do the same for everyone else.
At that point, you’ll find that everyone’s writing sounds the same, with no distinctions.
The only thing that will set you apart from others will be the “human touch” in your writing.
Writing has never been just about completing a task; it’s about expressing your soul and using words to engage with the world.
So, no matter how advanced AI becomes, it’s still just a tool.
You still need to infuse your own thoughts, emotions, and unique “style” into your articles.
That’s how your writing will not only get noticed but also be remembered.
