A friend once asked me: Will AI take away our jobs? Is there still a need for us to learn how to write?
But as I delved deeper and gained practical experience, I realized that this worry is entirely unnecessary.
AI is not here to take away our jobs; it's here to help us carry more plates!
How exactly is AI changing the world of writing?
First, we need to clarify a key question: What is the essence of AI writing?
Rather than calling it "AI writing," it's more accurate to describe it as "Writing + AI."
There’s a crucial order here: writing comes first, and AI comes second.
In other words, AI is a powerful assistant to our writing, not a complete replacement.
I like to compare the relationship between humans and AI to that of a conductor and musicians.
As the conductor, we are in charge of the overall composition and direction of the performance. We decide when the piece should rise to a thrilling climax and when it should transition into a gentle passage.
Although AI musicians are highly skilled and can play every note flawlessly, they still need our direction to synchronize and harmonize.
Similarly, in writing, we need to act like the conductor, overseeing the entire process, while AI is our capable assistant, helping turn our creative ideas into reality.
So, the first step in learning AI-assisted writing is to be clear about what we want to write, who the audience is, and what requirements we have. Only when we are clear about these things can AI assist us effectively.
