.Today, I came across a new tool released by Google—Whisk, a tool for creating images. However, when I tried to access it, I was informed that it was not available in my country/region, which was quite disappointing.
But this got me interested in other tools from Google Labs. One of them is TextFX.
What is TextFX?
TextFX is an AI experiment designed to help rappers, writers, and language artists expand their creative process. It was developed in collaboration with Lupe Fiasco and draws inspiration from the lyrical and linguistic techniques he developed throughout his career.
TextFX consists of 9 tools, each designed to explore the creative possibilities of words and language.
TextFX is powered by Google’s Gemini model through the Gemini API.
As a writer, I found their developed tools intriguing.

For each action you take, you will get 10 answers. You can copy and pin each answer.
A warning on the website:
Simile
A rhetorical device that makes descriptions more emphatic or vivid by comparing one thing to another (e.g., "brave as a lion").
I entered the word "writing," and it gave several sentences on this topic. For example: "Writing is like weaving a tapestry, each word a thread, each sentence a pattern, and the whole story a vibrant design."
Explode
As described on the website: break a word into similar phrases.
It may have its use, but I didn’t see its practical effect.
For example, the word "writing" was broken down into "right in."
Unexpect
Description: Make a scene more surprising and imaginative.
I continued with the word "writing." I found the phrase “writing a poem that smells like cinnamon and rain” very imaginative.
Chain
Build a series of semantically related items.
Starting with "writing," I got "writing, poem, rhythm, music, instrument, string, thread, needle."
Alliteration
Pick words starting with the chosen letter for a specific theme.
I chose "writing" as the theme (obviously), and the letter "A" as the chosen letter.
Acronym
Create an acronym using the letters of a word.
WRITING — Wondering, Reflecting, Imagining, Thinking, Inspiring, and Narrating Greatly
Here, you only get 1 answer instead of 10. But like all tools, you can request to regenerate.
WRITING — Words Reflecting Imagination, Transforming Insights into Narratives and Guiding
Fuse
Find the intersection between two things.
How would it handle "writing" and "Medium"? 😇 Of course, it doesn't know about our Medium.
Writing and medium are both vessels of expression—writing is a way to convey thoughts and emotions, while the medium is the specific platform for artistic creation.
Scene
Generate sensory details of a scene.
Some interesting answers included:
The scratch of a pen on paper
The click of keys on a keyboard
The spicy taste of coffee in the mouth
I didn’t expect the last one to appear.
Unfold
Embed a word into other words or phrases.
Here, I got 20 answers.
Creativity
You can adjust the creativity level in TextFX. Honestly, the difference is not very noticeable. My favorite is the standard 0.7 setting.
My Thoughts on These Tools
I think these tools have some interesting uses for creative writers. They can spark inspiration, offer perspectives you never considered, and even serve as hooks to start your story.
Personally, I like the Simile tool. Unexpect, Acronym, Fuse, and Scene are also tools I could use as a writer.
Overall, it’s a creative application of generative AI, assisting writers rather than replacing them.
