A few days ago, I came across an interview on YouTube featuring Mo Gawdat. After watching the video, it gave me chills for several consecutive days, yet I realized it was an unavoidable truth we must face. Mo Gawdat, a former executive at Google X, is a hands-on practitioner who has touched the pinnacle of the tech world.
He said: AI won't destroy humanity, but humans will very likely use AI to send themselves to hell. Initially, I thought it sounded like a movie line, but the more I pondered, the more unsettling it became. The more I compared and reflected, the more it hit home. Because it's not something that "will happen someday" – it's already quietly taking root in our daily lives.
We often treat AI as a tool, like Excel's ceiling, PowerPoint's instant formula, or video editing software's smart plugin, thinking of it as "helpful." But what's truly frightening is that it's growing into a new order: it has no desires, only amplifying the desires of those in control.
Platforms use it to allocate attention more precisely; Companies use it to make decisions for you more coldly; Algorithms use it to take away your right to choose more gently.
