Let’s continue talking about reading. Yesterday, a friend left a comment asking me:
Can AI assist us in reading?
I said yes, but you need to understand one thing:
AI can’t read for you, but it can read with you, push you to think, and help you organize.
Nowadays, too many people use AI to “read”: they throw a book at it and say, “Summarize it for me,” “Extract key quotes,” or “Analyze the framework.”
At first glance, it seems efficient, but you’re not actually absorbing anything. You’re just reading AI’s summary. You’re not reading the book—AI is.
It’s like how some people, when they come across a book, don’t read it themselves but go online to find a mind map of it instead.
And the result? They forget it right after, let alone apply it.
The human brain works in a way that if the input is too easy, you’re likely to struggle when trying to recall or apply it.
