Stop Kidding, That’s Not AI Writing at All!
AI writing can assist with outlines and structure, but it can’t replace your unique voice and personal insights, which are essential for meaningful writing.
An old friend asked me:
"Since AI is so powerful, why not just leave all the writing to AI?"
Indeed, why not? It would save time and effort.
But if you think about it carefully, the answer is quite simple:
No matter how strong AI gets, it can never fully replace you in writing.
There are many AI tools on the market now, and the articles they generate are increasingly decent, some even reaching good quality.
The titles, structure, and paragraphs are all neatly arranged, and the logic flows smoothly.
Sometimes, they even manage to stir some emotions, making you think the content came from a seasoned writer.
For example, Claude sometimes writes in a way that you wouldn’t even realize it's AI-generated.
But this kind of "good" remains only on the surface.
If you look closely, you’ll find that while these articles are well-structured, they lack soul.
Why is that?
Because no matter how advanced AI gets, its "thoughts" and "expressions" are extracted from data, generated in a methodical way.
They do not emerge spontaneously from life experience, emotions, or the clash of ideas.
Even in the unlikely event that one day AI could write a 60 or 70-point article if your writing process is simply providing a title and leaving the rest to AI:
What does that article have to do with you?
It might look fine, but it's not yours. It could have been generated by anyone or any AI.
There’s none of your thoughts, none of your views, none of your expression.
Such an article can be easily copied and replaced.
If you can do it, others can do it too, and they might even do it better.
Your personality, experience, and attitude are all drowned in a stream of AI-generated text.
Writing is, at its core, a process of self-dialogue.
While writing, you continuously reflect and reshape your views, organize your thoughts, and sometimes experience the joy of sudden insight.
These are things that are irreplaceable, especially by AI.
AI can certainly offer convenience in the writing process, like helping you gather material, draft an outline, or organize your logic.
These are areas where it excels, and where we can make good use of it.
But the key is that you need to be the one in control—AI is a tool, not the protagonist.
Writing is a form of expression, and expression carries a distinct personal imprint. Without you, no matter how good the article is, it’s just an empty piece of text.
